Junior Sailing

The Junior Sailing program runs from late June to mid August.

 

Optimist – The Optimist is a stable, difficult to flip, nearly impossible to sink, beginner boat. It is a single-handed boat with one sail. Each child will need their own Optimist. They are available for rent from the club for beginners only.

Beginner Opti is offered at $775 for three half day lessons a week

Opti C is offered at $775 for three half day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series or $1,250 for three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series

Opti B is offered at $775 for three half day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series or $1,250 for three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series

Opti A is offered at $775 for three half day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series or $1,250 for three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series

Opti Advanced is offered at $1,250 for three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series


Students can progress from beginner to advanced with opportunities to compete in local regattas accompanied by their coach.

 

Feva XL – A double-handed boat with an asymmetrical spinnaker. It is designed for sailors weighing 80-120 lbs. It is a bridge between Opti and 420/Lasers.

$775 Beginner – three half day sessions a week,

$1,250 Advanced – three full day sessions a week.

Both classes compete in MRYC Wednesday Race Series

Club Feva’s are available in the beginner class for a user fee.

 

Club 420 – A double-handed boat for more advanced junior sailors. 420’s are sailed at the high school and college levels. The ideal combined weight is 220-230 lbs: skipper 90-120 lbs., crew- 100-135 lbs.. This class meets 3 full days with Wednesday Race Series. They are encouraged to participate in local regattas.

$1,250 Three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series.

 

Laser – The Laser is an advanced high performance single handed boat for more advanced junior sailors.

$1,250 Three full day lessons a week and Wednesday Race Series

The 4.7 class is for sailors new to the boat. The suggested weight is 110-145 lbs.
The Radial class is for experienced Laser sailors. The suggested weight is 121-159 lbs.

 

Mini Conk – $150 An introduction to sailing for children who are 6-7 years. The program focuses on getting children comfortable with the Optimist and the water. It is offered just one week with two hours sessions each day.


Swim Team

Full season $360. Open to swimmers aged 5-18 years old. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool. The program is approximately six weeks from the end of June to early August. Practices are held in the mornings five days a week and meets are held on weeknights. Parents are expected to help run the meets – timing, marshaling, working the snack stand, etc.
